In 1974, Packo Surface Treatment started with electropolishing of stainless steel milk machine components for Fullwood, a UK-based milking parlour manufacturer.
The harsh conditions in the milking parlour – ammonia from the animals and chlorine from the disinfectants – caused corrosion of the stainless steel after just a few weeks. With electrolytic polishing, we were able to solve the problems of corrosion and cleanability at once.
Packo Surface Treatment was immediately approached by other manufacturers of stainless steel equipment facing similar issues relating to hygiene, corrosion, surface roughness, cleaning, etc. Services such as pickling and passivation, bead blasting or mechanical polishing were also offered.
In 1985, Packo Surface Treatment began treating pharmaceutical reactors and components. Significant investments were made in equipment and technology.
From 1990 onwards, the construction of stainless steel handrails, balustrades and outdoor furniture became very popular throughout Europe. However, manufacturers were soon confronted with the corrosion of stainless steel in outdoor applications – mainly due to sulphur in the air of our highly industrialised environment.
Consequently, Packo Surface Treatment invested in large treatment baths to immerse balustrades up to 6000mm in length.
Our experience and reputation as a problem-solving company led to new developments: Stainless steel derouging since 1995, stainless steel deblackening since 2005, micro-undulation and non-fingerprint finishes since 2008.
The most recent development is amorphisation, a bacteria-resistant finish. This finish prevents the growth of bacteria on stainless steel components, without being toxic to humans. This treatment is becoming increasingly popular with hospitals and other organisations in the healthcare sector.

Packo Surface Treatment is one of the three divisions of Packo Inox Ltd. in Diksmuide, which has been part of the Verder Group since 2015.

In addition, we offer a wide range of custom-made components with a hygienic finish: milk pumps, receivers and vessels, filters, manifolds, mixers, tubular heat exchangers, etc.
